• Congratulations to all the competitive dances at R.S.I. Danceworks for an extremely successful weekend at Limelight Dance Competition in Windsor, NS on April 26 - 28. Our dancers won numerous special awards, medals and trophies and to top of the weekend "Wizard of Oz" took home the award for Best Costume and "Minor Falls, Major Lifts" won The Vault Group Runner-Up! Congratulations to all the dancers and teachers for their hard work and dedication!
   
• Congratulations to Ciara Walker who competed at the Debbie Robson Memorial Highland Dance Competition that was held in Pictou on Saturday, April 13, 2013. Ciara brought home 1st place in the Full Tullock Reel, 2nd place in the Sword Dance and 3rd place in the Seann Triubhas. Congratulations Ciara ~ your friends at R.S.I. are very proud of you!

• Congratulations to KARMA Performance Group on a wonderful weekend at Champions Dance Competition! Among the numerous medals, trophies, special awards and cash won by the group, KARMA won the Champions of Champions Overall Highest Score of the entire competition with their dance "SAIL". The girls won a HUGE trophy and $1000 cash. Congratulations girls ~ your teachers are very proud!

        Other overall high mark awards include:

• Recital tickets will be available on Monday, April 15, 2013. These tickets will be held for each dancer's family until Saturday, May 11, 2013. After that time, tickets will be given to names on our waiting list. The recital times for each dance class can be found in the "Newsletter" section of our website. The number of tickets each family can purchase for each recital their children are performing in is as follows:
• • Saturday, May 25 ~ 11:00am = 6 tickets per family
  • Saturday, May 25 ~ 3:00pm = 4 tickets per family
  • Sunday, May 26 ~ 1:00pm = 6 tickets per family
  • Sunday, May 26 ~ 6:00pm = 10 tickets per family

March 2013

• Congratulations to all the dancers who participated in Limelight Halifax. R.S.I. Danceworks had a very successful weekend. Here are some highlights:
  • "The Portrait" choreographed by Stephanie Mitro wins Best Choreography award and The Vault Group Champion.
  • "The Wizard of Oz" wins Best Costume award - thanks to all teachers and parents who helped with costuming this routine.
  • "Dust & Water" danced by Abbie MacNeil and Cassidy Tully, choreographed by Jocelyne Hope wins The Vault Solo/Duo/Trio Runner Up.
  • Cassidy Tully wins $1000 cash for Most Promising Open Dancer.

February 2013

January 2013

• Jordan "J-Man" Francis stopped by our studio last week - no big deal! Jordan is in town promoting his play "The San Family" which is playing at Alderney Landing February 27 - March 1.

December 2012

• Thank you to everyone who supported R.S.I's Food Drive this year. We collected 348 items! A special congratulations to Megan Drake who receives $150 towards her registration or Limelight Dance Competition entry fees.

• On Saturday, December 8 and Sunday, December 9, KARMA Performance Group will be bagging groceries at the Co-op in Milford to help raise funds for their dance trip in 2014. Come support our dancers by purchasing your groceries at the Co-op this weekend!

November 2012

• The updated 2012/2013 Dance Season Calendar is now available. This is a reference for make-up classes, demo classes, scheduled breaks, competition/exam/recital dates.
   
• Melissa Mitro from SYTYCDC hosted an amazing workshop on November 18. Thank you to all the R.S.I. dancers who were able to participate!

 October 2012 

• Congratulations to the six dancers who participated in the BATD Scholarships in Toronto on October 19 & 20, 2012. The weekend consisted of jazz, modern, lyrical and ballet workshops with top choreographers. Great job Kylie, Annie, Jaime, Emily, Sarah and Emma!

• Thank you to the dancers who performed at the Walk for Wishes on October 14, 2012. We love watching you perform in our community!

• We are excited to announce this year's production will be the Wizard of Oz!  This year we have three new choreographers, exciting new dance styles and of course more fabulous costumes and props! Wednesday jazz students are again invited to participate as well as dancers who were give a written invitation. We are so excited and we hope you are too!

August 2012

• Congratulations to Cassidy Tully, Morgan MacNeil and Abbie MacNeil who were among the best dancers at 5678 Showtime events across Canada selected for the Paris Dance Tour August 6 - 13, 2013. The girls spent four days taking private classes from top Parisian choreographers in styles such as ballet, contemporary, new style and voguing. While in Paris, the girls stayed in Bercy Village and went on a boat cruise along the Seine River, visited the Louvre, Notre Dame and the famous castle of Versailles, had a photo shoot with Greg Sino and dinner at the Eiffel Tower and attended the unforgettable Moulin Rouge. Congrats ladies - what an experience of a lifetime!

• Registration for non-competitive students will take place August 14th - September 6th during office hours (Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays 2:00-8:00pm). Go to the registration section of the website to download the registration form.  We can't wait for another fun filled year of dance!

July 2012

• Summer Dance Intensive with Brittany Davis. The summer dance intensive is designed for students with a strong desire to improve their strength, flexibility and technique. All of which play an important role in a dancers career. The summer dance intensive is open to all serious dancers ages 7 – 18. This year the workshop will take place during the weeks of July 16-20 and August 13-17 and is open to all age groups. Classes will run from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at the RSI Danceworks studio.

• We will be walking and dancing in the Elmsdale Canada Day Parade. If you would like to join us in your costume, please call our office to register. Dancers under the age of 7 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. All dancers can join us for a BBQ at the studio after we are finished in the parade. 

June 2012

• All competitive dancers who will be dancing in the competitive program during the 2012/13 must register during the month of June during our June office hours (Tuesdays & Wednesdays from 2:00 – 8:00PM). This change will allow us to monitor the class sizes of our competitive classes and allow 2011/12 competitive students the first opportunity to register for their desired classes. If competitive dancers do not register in June, their classes may be full when they register. Go to the registration section of the website to download the registration form.  

• Summer Ballet Technique Classes with Nancy Ivey. These classes will focus on Ballet technique that will help refine ballet principles for students who want to gain more strength, style, and focus for all styles of dance.Thursdays: June 7, 21, 28 and July 5,12, 26. • Acro classes with Stephanie Mitro and Heather MacDonald. June 11-15 and July 2-6. These 2 hour classes will focus on core strength, flexibility, acrobatics and tumbling. • Congratulations on a great weekend at 5,6,7,8 Dance Competition. We received numerous awards and World Cup Invitations including: 13 & Up Top Duo/Trio First Place Award for Crash, Sofi Needs a Ladder and The Wilderness Downtown, 12 & Under Group of the Year First Place Award for Can Can, Itsy Bitsy Spider and Let Your Freak Flag Fly, 13 & Over Group of the Year First Place Award for Army of Harmony, Social Network and Tonight and First Place Production for Pirates of the Caribbean. Abbie MacNeil, Cassidy Tully and Morgan MacNeil were invited to the Paris Summer Dance Tour. Abbie and Cassidy were also selected to audition for Cirque du Soleil in Montreal this summer.  Congratulations dancers!

• Congratulations dancers on a very successful weekend at Limelight Dance Competition. We took home numerous awards including 2nd Place Vault award for Top Solo/Duo/Trio for Crash and First place Vault Group trophy for Let Your Freak Flag Fly.  

• May  26th and 27th we held our annual recitals at Hants East Rural High School. Congratulations to all of our dancers on their wonderful performances. • Congratulations to Karma Performance Group and RSI Acro Dancers on a very sucessful weekend at Champions Dance Competition in Halifax. Shown below is Abbie MacNeil and Cassidy Tully with their "Champion of Champions" trophy for their duo "Crash" 

• The R.S.I. Danceworks office is now located on the 2nd floor (the same floor as our three studios) in suite 204 at the end of the hall!

• April 5 and 6th - BATD examinations in Jazz and Ballet. Congratulations Dancers on a job well done!

• April 27th - Spend an evening celebrating the diversity of youth talent in our community. Performers will showcase their music, dance and art for you on April 27th at Hants East Rural High. Tickets are $5.00 and are available from RSI Danceworks at 883-0264 or at the door. Doors open at 6:00pm - Show starts at 6:30pm. A portion of the proceeds will go towards the Hants East Rural High Music and Arts Program. Check out the news paper article on the show in the Weekly Press!

March 2012

• On March 3rd and 4th, Abbie MacNeil and Cassidy Tully attended iDance Convention in Moncton, NB. iDance is the only official Canadian Dance Convention that tours exclusively with So You Tihink You Can Dance Canada's Top 4 from seasons 1, 2, 3 and 4. Season 4's Melissa Mitro, Matt Marr and Christian Millette were their instructors for 16 jam packed hours of dance! The girls did contemporary, hip hop, tap, lyrical, cha cha, jazz funk and jive. They also went to a private dinner with the stars where they shared some very interested stories about their journey on SYTYCDC! Congrats Abbie and Cassidy on a very successful weekend!

Emma Malay and Andrea White were selected for the ballet branch, and Morgan MacNeil, Sydney Penney, Kassi Dill, Kirsten Dill, Courtney Frame & Emma Jordan were selected for the jazz branch.
